Eight days left, folks. Eight days. We are doing everything we can around here to maintain a sense of normalcy, but at the same time take care of all the “end of the year” madness. Let’s just say that being a teacher 8 days before summer break is one of the toughest jobs out there!
To make things a little more fun and enticing I decided to start a behavior incentive program. I chose 9 things for the last 9 days of school that would entice my students to keep on track and make good choices. At the beginning of the day, we cut off a link of our chain and read which reward we will be working towards for the day. Today, we cut off “Chew It Up!”
In order to chew their bubblegum, my students had to work as a whole class to spell out BUBBLEGUM. 9 letters, 9 compliments. Easy as pie.
Once my class completed the word BUBBLEGUM, we started our bubblegum fun! First, we watched The Gum Chewing Rattler by Joe Hayes… such a cute story!
After chewing for a few minutes, we made our graph and did quite a bit of graph talk afterwards. .
Then, I decided to pull out my gumball machine craftivity. I haven’t made these in years, so I thought I would give it a whirl again! We reviewed multiplication with our gumball machines! This ended up being a great time to reinforce and reteach what we did several weeks ago 🙂
And, they will make a super cute display for the next 8 days 🙂
Our rewards for the next 8 days are…
8. Sidewalk chalk
5. Game Day
3. Classroom Awards
2. Sit with a buddy
1. End of the Year Party
I’m *hoping* that these behavior incentives will help the next 8 days go by super fast! One can dream, right??!!
