Earth Day Directed Drawing and Picture Book Ideas

Earth Day is on April 22nd. What do you have planned? Well, if you just panicked a little, don’t fret because today I have an Earth Day directed drawing FREEBIE AND several book suggestions to help you bring the entire “Save the Earth” message together. It’s not every year that I do a whole bunch of activities but I thought this would be a great opportunity to teach students about something BIG about protecting the planet. Especially after the year of the pandemic!

First things first, here’s a sneak peak at the directed drawing.

I decided to incorporate this cute little flower with an Earth face because plants truly are the key to the longevity of our planet! Plus, I think the kids will love the contrast between the two.

I also included a writing page so your students can brainstorm on what they can do to help the Earth. This could easily be incorporated into a science or life cycle lesson as well. Best of all, this is also available in both Seesaw and Google Classroom so all of my virtual friends can join in!

Picture Books for Earth Day

To really hone in on the message and teach your students what Earth Day is all about, a good book goes a long way. So, I’ve compiled a list of some of my favorite picture books that tell a story about the preservation of our environment, appreciation for our planet, and restoration. I’ve linked all of the books below for you!
