Well, it’s been quite a week… I’ll tell you that much. I mean, Halloween on a Wednesday?! That’s like a teacher’s nightmare! Well, I *kinda* *maybe* *sort of* went against my original plan to embrace Halloween. I *kinda* *maybe* *sort of* ignored the holiday completely at school. But, in my defense, I came down with allergies/a cold on Tuesday during school and I was feeling like crud! So, I just had to do my best to make it through the day on Wednesday!!!
And, now, I sound like a man…. which is ever so attractive during parent conferences 🙂
My kids really have been pretty awesome this week, even with Halloween smackdab in the middle. I’m going to say it’s because we’ve been super busy learning how to tell time!
On Monday, I had my kids work in groups to make the parts of a clock with cut-up sentence strips. Then, they got on the floor, put them together, and started to practice making times!
On Tuesday, we made a timeline of our day. First, we brainstormed a typical 2nd grader’s schedule on the board. Then, I assigned each student a time to illustrate and make on the clock. Afterwards, we put them all in order on the butcher paper!
And, yes, there are some wrong times that I need to correct, dangit!
On Wednesday, we reviewed time a little bit more, but only focused on time to the hour and half hour. After practicing on their individual clocks for a while, they made these little pocket-books from my “It’s About Time” unit.
where they wrote the times and sorted time to the hour and time to the half-hour.
Then, today we talked about seconds, minutes, and hours! First, we brainstormed lots of activities for each section.
Then, we sorted different activities with our flapbooks (found in my unit)!!
